CLEVELAND, Oct. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United Steelworkers (USW) today said that International President Leo W. Gerard and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) President Lee Saunders will join Ohio's Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, Ted Strickland, and rally with union members at Local 979 to support Hillary Clinton and other union-endorsed candidates on Fri., Oct. 14, 2016, at 3:30 p.m.
In the wake of recent revelations from Newsweek that Donald Trump used Caribbean shell companies and other tricks to buy Chinese steel and aluminum for his American skyscrapers, Gerard and Saunders are rallying in the shadows of ArcerlorMittal's Cleveland mill to highlight this issue for Ohio voters and make the case for Hillary Clinton.
After the rally, volunteers will participate in "Labor-to-Labor" neighborhood canvassing and phone banking to spread the message that union members must vote on Nov. 8, because the stakes for American working families have never been higher than they are in this election.
The USW represents 850,000 men and women employed in metals, mining, pulp and paper, rubber, chemicals, glass, auto supply and the energy-producing industries, along with a growing number of workers in public sector and service occupations.
