CHICAGO, March 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United Steelworkers (USW) today said that rank-and-file union members and their elected leaders will rally with allies and supporters on Thurs., March 19, at BP's corporate offices at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Although last week's tentative agreement with oil industry representatives could eventually lead to the end of the current industry-wide unfair labor practice strike, each local unit and their management counterparts must also conclude their own site-specific negotiations as well as accepting issues as outlined in the pattern settlement.
While some oil industry employers are working with the USW to finish local bargaining and execute their contracts, this has not been the case with BP negotiations at struck facilities in Whiting, Ind. and Toledo, Ohio.
The union expects Thursday's rally at Chicago Mercantile Exchange to show BP management that USW Oil Workers are united in their drive for fair contracts and are serious about the safety improvements long overdue at BP and throughout the oil industry.
The USW represents 850,000 men and women employed in metals, mining, pulp and paper, rubber, chemicals, glass, auto supply and the energy-producing industries, along with a growing number of workers in public sector and service occupations.
