SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Compared to other states, Utah ranks among the lowest in its high percentage of uninsured adults and children. In addition, health insurance providers in Utah are raising premium rates by significant percentages. Below is a snapshot of these trends in Utah's current health care market:
- In a recent study by the personal finance website WalletHub, Utah ranked 37th in the percentage of its population covered by health insurance, with 12.5 percent of Utahns uninsured.
- In another study, Utah ranked 47th in the nation for children's health care coverage with approximately 85,000 uninsured children.
- Utah health insurers are raising policy rates anywhere from 10 to 45 percent this year.
"As a Utahn, I find some of these statistics alarming," said Enrollment USA founder and CEO John Carroll. "There should not be that many people without health insurance. That is partly why I launched Enrollment USA this year, as a way to try to help more Utahns find a plan in as painless a way as possible."
Launched in November, Enrollment USA is a service that allows individuals and families to enroll in a health insurance plan based on specific preferences. The company offers an online comparison feature to assist Utahns in differentiating between plan options as well as a call center for people to speak with certified agents.
Enrollment USA offers health insurance advice at no additional cost to the consumer, and all of its services are also available through the Spanish language division of the company, Familia USA.
Open Enrollment Period ends Jan. 31, 2016. For individuals who want coverage to start Jan. 1, 2016, they must enroll in a health plan by Dec. 15, 2015.
