Vayama.com Sponsors the TriLife Runners in the 2011 Comrades Marathon
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- International travel website vayama.com, in partnership with South African Airways, is proudly sponsoring TriLife, a New York based running team in the 2011 Comrades Marathon. The Comrades Marathon is a 55.9 mile ultramarathon run in the Kwazulu-Natal Province of South Africa. It is the world's largest and oldest ultramarathon and is considered one of the ultimate challenges in the sport. "Much like international travel does, this marathon brings people together from all over the world to accomplish a common goal in a way they wouldn't otherwise have the chance to. Vayama is proud to sponsor the athletes who will be completing this tremendous accomplishment," states vayama CEO Andre Hesselink.
TriLife's runners will face the harsh conditions of the South African veldt (dry savannah) and challenge the "big five" hills of the marathon route. This year, the race will be an up run. It alternates yearly, from the city of Durban to the picturesque town of Pietermaritzburg . The race celebrates the human spirit and camaraderie in the face of adversity and commemorates South African soldiers killed during Great War. The race also highlights the vital spirit of South Africa's big five game animals (the Lion, the Elephant, the Rhino, the Buffalo and the Leopard), in the five set of hills marking the route.
As TriLife athlete Philip Kiracofe puts it, "The Comrades Marathon, revered as the Ultimate Human Race, is the most inspiring, and daunting, challenge I have ever considered taking on. Traveling to such an exotic destination will make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and TriLife is honored to have vayama and South African Airways as our partner, ensuring that this long journey is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible."
Getting the TriLife athletes there is South African Airways. "South African Airways is proud to partner with vayama to help athletes discover the challenge and exhilaration that an event such as the Comrades Marathon can represent," said Todd Neuman, acting executive vice president - North America for South African Airways. "We know that conditioning and preparation are critical to athletes, so we've made the flying experience on South African Airways as comfortable as possible. When deciding to fly to Africa to discover its many athletic opportunities and the amazing vistas, it's best to fly with South African Airways, South Africa's national carrier and Africa's most awarded airline."
