Venezuela's Struggle For Democracy, a conversation with Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, Executive Secretary of the Democratic Unity Platform
WASHINGTON, June 17, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- We are pleased to invite you to a conversation with Ramon Guillermo Aveledo, Executive Secretary of the Democratic Unity Platform, the so called Mesa de la Unidad Democratica (MUD, for its acronym in Spanish) – the Venezuelan umbrella organization that supported candidate Henrique Capriles in the last two presidential elections.
Mr. Aveledo has been a key figure in building a unified force of all Venezuelan opposition political parties to restore democracy and the rule of law in Venezuela.
He is a former congressman from the state of Lara (1994-1998), elected in that period as the Chamber of Deputies' President (equivalent to the Speaker of the House in the US). Previously, he had served as President Luis Herrera Campins' Secretary of the Presidency (1979 - 1984).
Mr. Aveledo's visit to Washington is part of the MUD's efforts to engage the international community in supporting the Venezuelan democratic forces, and raise awareness about the current political crisis in the country.
