DETROIT, Feb. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon customers in Michigan are enjoying all the benefits of the top performing wireless network in the state, as rated by the new Michigan RootScore® Report by RootMetrics. RootMetrics is an independent mobile analytics firm that uses off-the-shelf consumer smartphones to test the network capabilities of all four major U.S. wireless carriers in six network performance categories across various geographies.

This latest RootScore report rated the Verizon Michigan network No. 1 in four categories and tied for first in two additional categories. In addition to overall performance, Verizon's Michigan network was ranked highest for the fifth consecutive testing period in reliability, speed and data performance. In this report the company shared first place in call and text performance. Additionally, for the fifth consecutive time, Verizon's wireless U.S. network has been acknowledged by RootMetrics as the leader in overall performance among national wireless service providers across the country.

Scores are based on RootMetrics tests conducted in 224 indoor locations and tests across 7,271 miles in Michigan, from July through December 2015.

"We're pleased to win the 5th straight overall network performance ranking in Michigan in the latest RootScore report," said Abby Knowles, executive director-network, Verizon. "Our focus is on continuing to improve our network in the state and win all six categories because we know a better network matters to our customers."

Verizon continues to enhance its network in Michigan by deploying new technology such as small cells and distributed antenna systems and expanding XLTE coverage, which doubles 4G LTE network bandwidth in cities nationwide, with faster peak speeds and greater capacity than before. In addition, Verizon has aggressively deployed LTE Advanced and carrier aggregation, which uses software to combine multiple network channels running on different spectrum bands into one big pipe, significantly increasing speeds for consumers.

In the Metro RootScore report series, Verizon also was rated the No. 1 network in Detroit and Flint for overall, reliability, speed, data and call performance.
