Verizon Wireless Supports Troops And Military Families Through USO Programs In Texas
DALLAS, June 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless announced today that it has presented two grants, a total of $60,000, to the USO (United Service Organizations) to support locations at Dallas/Fort Worth, TX (DFW) and San Antonio, TX. The grants will be used to provide vital resources and support to active duty troops, as well as their families.
"Verizon is proud to work with these two USO centers in Texas," said Michelle Miller, Central Texas region president at Verizon Wireless. "The grants are simply our way of showing gratitude for the many sacrifices made by our troops and their families."
Serving as a home away from home for our nation's military heroes, whether they need a place to rest, relax, connect with family or grab a bite to eat, USO DFW and USO San Antonio locations are complete with amenities such as computers, free snacks and beverages, theater and game rooms and play areas for children. In 2013 alone, they collectively served more than 250,000 troops and families at their locations and community events. The USO offers a variety of programs and services designed specifically to lift the spirits and strengthen resiliency of America's troops and families. This year, in partnership with game on Nation, a firm that specializes in communication, leadership and teambuilding, USO DFW and USO San Antonio began hosting game on Nation workshops with the goal of enhancing resiliency and communication among troops and their families.
"These grants will help us do what the USO does best and that is provide some of those critical moments our troops and their families often miss due to their service to our country," said Rhenda White-Brunner, USO DFW director. "From programs that help troops and their families stay connected during deployments, to those that help strengthen military families and our healing heroes, the USO is always by the side of our armed forces. Support from partners like Verizon makes that possible. We are grateful for Verizon's support over the years."
