HOUSTON, Feb. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Decorated veteran, entrepreneur and philanthropist Don Mann will deliver a keynote speech at an awards banquet Feb. 27 celebrating veteran entrepreneurs.
The banquet, hosted by the Houston chapter of the global non-profit Entrepreneurs' Organization, is the culmination of the EO-Houston Veterans Business Battle (www.vetbizbattle.com), a business plan competition for veterans seeking investment capital. More than $900,000 of investment offers were extended to finalists in 2015. Seventeen finalists were selected to compete in this year's event.
The winners of the competition, which will be held earlier that day at Rice University, will be announced at the dinner. KPRC anchor and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Bill Balleza will also deliver opening remarks about veterans in the Houston area. KUHF radio host Michael Berry will emcee the ceremony.
Mann is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL member of Team SIX, former CIA operative, renowned adventure competitor and author of 11 books, including his New York Times best-selling autobiography "Inside SEAL Team SIX: My Life and Missions with America's Elite Warriors." He is the founder and CEO of Frogman Charities (www.frogmancharities.org), a nonprofit that raises money for charities that support Navy SEAL veterans, military personnel and their families.
"It is an honor to be selected as the keynote speaker for a program affiliated with such a great organization that enables veterans to succeed and help their fellow veterans," Mann said. "As a veteran, I know firsthand the issues that my fellow veterans face. I am looking forward to sharing details of how I am working now to help others learn about those issues and what they can do to help."
Portions of the proceeds from the dinner will go toward the Rice University Veterans in Business Association Military Scholars Program, which provides scholarships for veterans pursuing a Rice MBA degree.
Cpl. Kyle Carpenter was previously scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the dinner, but was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Tickets and table sponsorships are available at Www.vetbizbattle.com.
Veterans Business Battle was established in 2015 by The Houston chapter of Entrepreneurs' Organization and Rice University's Veterans in Business Association. The competition aims to foster entrepreneurship among veterans, grow veteran-owned businesses and give back to veterans seeking to make a difference in the business world.
