VHA reaches knowledge sharing milestone with 200th Leading Practice Blueprint®
VHA's unique mapping and sharing of hospitals' leading practices helps increase quality of care while reducing costs
IRVING, Texas, Dec. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- VHA Inc., the national health care network, published its 200th Leading Practice Blueprint representing a milestone in knowledge sharing. The blueprints are available to members on the VHA IMPERATIV® portal.
The blueprint, a proprietary VHA methodology, highlights leading practices at individual hospitals through detailed, easy-to-understand, visual depictions and supporting narrative on proven processes. Helping to drive cultural change and improve patient care, blueprints transform leading practices into something easily shared and replicated across VHA's membership. Current blueprints cover topics such as care coordination, clinical management/quality, patient safety, patient experience, supply management, green health, and population health management.
"The blueprints prevent us from re-inventing the wheel, especially the shared documents such as policies and examples," explained Marilyn McSwain, chief nursing officer for Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana. "We have made many lasting improvements with the help of VHA's blueprints."
By the end of 2013, more than 210 blueprints will be available for VHA members to access. Future blueprint topics include:
- Blood conservation management
- Health literacy
- Hospital leadership
- Inventory control
- Pain management
- Palliative care advanced certification
- Tissue tracking
"VHA's blueprints provide healthcare organizations with the most robust and actionable tools to share leading practices across the healthcare industry," said Steve Miff, Ph.D., senior vice president of VHA's Clinical and Care Delivery Solutions. "VHA is in a unique position to work with organizations to accelerate the deployment of key initiates that drive cost and quality leadership."
