CARLSBAD, Calif., Sept. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ViaSat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) is continuing development of its forward error correction (FEC) for 100G optical transport by releasing its silicon-proven cores (ECC66100 series) as standard off-the-shelf products. The technology can provide cost savings over optical compensation techniques, increase optical channel capacity, and extend the range of transmission for optical cables. Those interested in the FEC cores can learn more at the ViaSat stand (1246) at the European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) beginning September 18 in Geneva, Switzerland.

ViaSat proprietary soft-decision coding, with scalable overhead up to 20%, improves performance in metro and long haul applications by providing up to 11.3dB Net Electrical Coding Gain (NECG). The FEC core is optimized for 100 Gbps data rates and is scalable to 40 Gbps or beyond 100 Gbps, and easily adapts to higher order modulations (e.g., QPSK, 8PSK, n-QAM) and OFDM. The FEC cores are optimized for low power consumption and latency and for use with 28 to 40 nm ASIC processes.
ViaSat has built an extensive portfolio of FEC and DSP cores that have demonstrated some of the best performances in the industry. These FEC and DSP cores are verified and available as synthesized RTL. Pricing and customization are available on request by contacting ViaSat at (216) 706-7800 or [email protected].
