Funds raised at the annual Cheeseburger in Paradise event being held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club (415 Country Club Circle, Fort Lauderdale), will benefit Victory Living Programs. Victory Living Programs is a nonprofit organization that provides supported living, employment and social programs to help individuals with disabilities live healthy, productive and independent lives.
For $65 per person or $110 per couple, Cheeseburger in Paradise patrons will enjoy the burger bar and all its fixings, two drink tickets, DJ and dancing on the beautiful grounds of the Fort Lauderdale Country Club – all while wearing their favorite island attire.
Attendees will also get the chance to win silent and live auctions prizes, including baskets based on Jimmy Buffet songs, 4 one-day park hopper passes to Disney World, a tasting party for 20 people in the private tasting room of Total Wine & More in Plantation, a one-week stay at a vacation cabin in North Carolina and a one-week stay at a vacation home in Costa Rica.
Far from simply helping to provide the basic needs of individuals with disabilities, Victory Living strives to provide rich, full lives to its clients.
"Everything we do at Victory Living Programs is to develop a warm, welcoming, safe environment for individuals with disabilities. We strive to create a home away from home for them, so that they can develop lifelong friendships and reach their highest level of independence," said Bobbi Wigand, Executive Director of Victory Living Programs.
One client, David, lives separately from his family in an apartment with two roommates, is employed at Walmart and takes an active role in Victory Living Programs' social and athletic activities. "David is the epitome of everything we do at Victory Living Programs ... He's just really realizing his dream of independence," said Wigand.
