NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. has named the Villere Balanced Fund (VILLX) to the Mutual Fund OneSource Select List®, the Income Mutual Fund Select ListTM and the Mutual Fund Select List Advisor EditionTM.
To qualify, Charles Schwab Investment Advisory, Inc. (CSIA) rigorously analyzes funds across a series of quantitative and qualitative metrics that consider performance, risk and expenses.
Funds considered must be actively managed, no load, no transaction fee mutual funds with a track record of three plus years.
The OneSource Select List and the Income Mutual Fund Select List are widely used by portfolio consultants and have become an important tool for helping investors sort through the thousands of available mutual funds for those that have distinguished themselves. The Select List Advisor Edition is a list of funds available to independent registered investment advisors.
"We are honored to be named to the Charles Schwab Select Lists," said George Young, portfolio manager. "By being included, Schwab has underscored our belief that a portfolio of carefully chosen small, growth-oriented companies has the potential to outperform their larger, more mature counterparts over the long run."
The Villere Balanced Fund is a concentrated fund, holding approximately 20-25 stocks of small-to-medium size companies in addition to bonds. Started in 1999, the fund follows the same investment philosophy and process the firm has embraced for over 100 years.
"We have a great deal of conviction in each of the companies we own. By investing in only a handful of our best ideas, we can really get to know the companies -- to 'kick the tires,'" said Sandy Villere, III, portfolio manager. "As active managers, we believe knowing the ins and outs of a company helps us make more informed decisions."

Mutual fund investing involves risk; loss of principal is possible. Investments in smaller and medium sized companies involve additional risks such as limited liquidity and greater volatility than large cap companies. The Balanced Fund will invest in debt securities. Investments in debt securities typically decrease in value when interest rates rise. This risk is usually greater for longer-term debt securities. Investments in lower rated and non-rated securities present a great risk of loss to principal and interest than higher rated securities.
While the Fund is no-load, management & other expenses still apply. Please refer to the Prospectus for more information.
While the Fund may not have a transaction fee through Charles Schwab, there may be other fees or expenses applicable to individual accounts.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) does not approve or disapprove of any investment
