Memory Module Virtualization
This patent extends Violin's ability to achieve extreme performance and predictable low latency for flash memory data storage systems. The patent discloses a technique that employs "erase hiding," which allows flash memory overhead operations, such as garbage collection, to be performed while minimizing the effect of the overhead operations on the response time to read or to write data. Combining erase hiding with vRAID techniques permits memory data storage systems to maintain a high-performance advantage during online system storage capacity expansion.
Ebrahim Abbasi, Violin's CEO and President, said: "It is very gratifying to announce this important addition to our patent portfolio which illustrates Violin's continuing tradition of innovation in storage technology."
