Vonage Granted Six New Patents
Brings total number of patents granted in 2014 to 20
HOLMDEL, N.J., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG), a leading provider of communication services connecting consumers and businesses through cloud-connected devices worldwide, today announced that it was granted six new patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Vonage has now been granted 20 U.S. patents in 2014, exceeding the 18 patents granted in 2013. The Company owns 57 U.S. patents and has 244 U.S. patent applications pending, along with numerous foreign patents and pending applications in jurisdictions worldwide.
"With these most recent patents, Vonage continues to demonstrate its focus on improving the customer experience while lowering communication costs for its customers through innovative VoIP solutions," said Chief Legal Officer Kurt M. Rogers. "These patents address challenges inherent in providing seamless mobile over-the-top communication services; further enhance the Company's protection of its proprietary inbound roaming solution; and enable VoIP providers such as Vonage to leverage information from multiple sources to optimize call quality and service."
U.S. Pat. No. 8,861,336, "Systems and Methods for Integrating Rate and Route Information into Call Detail Records," and U.S. Pat. No. 8,861,373, "Systems and Methods for Collecting Information Relating to Internet Protocol Telephone Call Quality," both issued today, relate to call quality and service optimization.
- The '336 patent provides efficiencies to VoIP providers when routing calls on their network. The system analyzes previous successful and unsuccessful routing attempts to optimize its prioritization of future attempts.
- The '373 patent enables VoIP providers to identify conditions such as battery level or wireless signal strength that may be affecting call quality, and then use this information to adjust settings that may improve call quality.
U.S. Pat. Nos. 8,862,109 & 8,855,612, "Systems and Methods for Connecting Calls to Mobile Telephony Devices," issued today and October 7 respectively, each relate to technology that prompts a customer's mobile carrier to activate a call forwarding feature enabling low-cost incoming calls on mobile phones when traveling internationally. Vonage now owns six patents related to this technology and the ReachMe Roaming™ feature launched for the Vonage Mobile® app earlier this year.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,825,814, "Method and Apparatus for Minimizing Application Delay by Pushing Application Notifications," issued on September 2, and U.S. Pat. No. 8,843,601, "Method and Apparatus for VoIP Communication Completion to a Mobile Device," issued on September 23, each relate to providing seamless mobile over-the-top communication services.
- The '814 patent enables mobile applications to more easily perform updates while running in the background. This prevents excessive delays associated with having to perform multiple updates simultaneously upon entering active use (foreground mode).
- The '601 patent enhances the ability of VoIP providers to consistently deliver incoming calls to smartphones that have installed the provider's app, particularly phones running mobile operating systems that do not provide a means for the provider to determine whether the app is running in the background or being actively used when the call is received.
