WakeMed Offers Real-Time Clinical Information to Area Pediatricians Using Axial Exchange Solution in its New Children's Hospital
Axial Exchange delivers clinical information safely and securely where and when patients and providers need it.
RALEIGH, N.C. , Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Axial Exchange, Inc. announced today the launch of its Axial Alerts(TM) service at WakeMed Health & Hospitals, based in Raleigh, NC. The introduction of Axial Alerts was coordinated with the opening of WakeMed Children's Hospital, which began seeing patients in June. WakeMed is currently a leading provider of pediatric health care services in the state, serving nearly 150,000 children per year.
Axial Alerts bridges the information gap between hospitals and area physicians. At WakeMed, the Axial solution makes it possible for area pediatricians to access real-time clinical information about their patients who are seen at WakeMed's Children's Emergency Department (ED). For example, if a child was seen in WakeMed's ED and had laboratory or imaging work done, the pediatrician could electronically access that information in their private practice, making it easier to provide effective follow-up care once the child has left WakeMed.
"This solution will allow us to work with community pediatricians to ensure greater continuity of care for the children who come to us for emergency care," explains Ben Alexander, MD, WakeMed pediatric hospitalist and chief medical information officer. "The Axial service also meets the needs of our community pediatrician partners who can use this clinical information to provide a higher level of care for their patients."
By leveraging the power of open source software, Axial Exchange has introduced an enterprise-class product at the fraction of the time and cost of proprietary alternatives. Axial's open source platform is standards-based, which enables WakeMed to use the platform in a variety of future clinical exchange applications -- including communicating with other hospitals.
"We are very proud of our WakeMed partnership and how it will improve the quality of care being received in our community," said Joanne Rohde, CEO of Axial Exchange.
