Walgreens to Feature NMSDC in Black History Month Promotion
NEW YORK, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Harriet R. Michel, president of the National Minority Supplier Development Council, will appear in Walgreens print promotions this month when the national drugstore chain introduces its "Community Corner" program. The initiative kicks off the company's celebration of Black History Month, and is designed to promote the success of minority-owned businesses.
"NMSDC is honored to have been selected by Walgreens to participate in this inaugural campaign," said Ms. Michel. "This promotion is another great example of the company's commitment to minority business development."
A photo of Ms. Michel appears on the inside front cover of a coupon booklet, which will be available in all 7,100 Walgreens stores nationwide. Along with her photo is a brief description of NMSDC and her accomplishments. The facing page salutes the National Urban League, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary by partnering with the drugstore chain on a Wellness Tour.
"I'm very proud to honor Ms. Michel and the NMSDC's work to promote minority business development as a key component in the global economy," said Gleatha Glispie, director of supplier diversity for Walgreens. "Throughout my 16-year affiliation with the NMSDC, I've gained a profound respect for Ms. Michel's leadership and the comprehensive and strategic training provided by the organization."
The campaign extends the NMSDC brand to the consumer market, and gives shoppers across the country an opportunity to learn about the 38-year-old organization, and its Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American business owners.
"Appearing in 7,100 Walgreens stores will certainly move the NMSDC beyond the corporate board room to the consumer marketplace," said Ms. Michel. "Many of Walgreens' customers may be entrepreneurs and this will introduce them to an organization that specializes in minority business development."
In addition to the coupon booklet, Walgreens stores will also feature "shelf poppers" to identify products produced by African-Americans. The company plans to extend its Community Corner program with similar initiatives in support of Asian, Hispanic and Native American entrepreneurs later this year.
