NEW YORK, June 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Annual Financial Services Cares Gala (FSCG) will celebrate its 12th year on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the New York Hilton Midtown. More than 700 leaders of the financial services industry have gathered each year to raise funds, awareness, and support for the American Cancer Society's programs and mission. FSCG will once again include the popular musical battle "Wall Street's Got Talent" where executives from participating banks and investment companies face off in a talent performance. To date, the Gala has raised more than $14 million dollars.
John Thiel, Vice Chairman of Global Wealth and Investment Management at Bank of America, will serve his final year as Co-Chair of the Gala. Other dedicated Co-Chair's include Robert F. Arning, Vice Chair, Market Development, KPMG, LLP; Robert S. Kapito, President, BlackRock; and Richie Prager, Senior Managing Director, BlackRock.
"This is the night for the financial community to work together and fight cancer," says Mr. Thiel. "Cancer touches everyone in some way, and we are dedicated to offer support and battle this terrible disease. It has been a great honor to serve as Co-Chair for the past five years and I look forward to watching the success of this talented group of executives in years to come."
FSCG will also pay tribute to the late Eugene O'Kelly, former-CEO of KPMG, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2005. Gene was committed to promoting philanthropy and volunteerism in the workplace and instituted company policy to positively impact employee wellness. His wife, Corinne, continues his efforts by serving as the Gala Legacy Chair.
The Eugene D. O'Kelly Award will be presented this year to Dr. Shalom Kalnicki, professor and chair, Department of Radiation Oncology, Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Kalnicki leads an internationally recognized team of radiation oncologists, physicists, nurses, social workers and radiation therapists who provide state-of-the-art therapy. As a passionate advocate of holistic cancer care, Dr. Kalnicki is a longtime supporter of programs designed to meet the psychological and emotional needs of people impacted by cancer.
The event will recognize Nationwide for its deep relationships with its national partners including Feeding America, United Way, the American Red Cross, and Nationwide Children's Hospital. Nationwide's culture is known for its employee volunteer programs and partner advocacy. It is for this activism that Nationwide will receive the 2017 Financial Services Cares Gala Distinguished Service Award.
Since 2011, the American Cancer Society has donated a portion of the net proceeds from the Gala to support the Hope & Heroes Children's Cancer Fund at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City to help with its cutting-edge programs and research on pediatric cancer and blood disorders.
