MESA, Ariz., Aug. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Wallick & Volk Mortgage announced today that they have made a $10,000 donation to the House of Refuge in Mesa, Arizona.
Brian Rogerson, Manager of Wallick & Volk's Mesa Branch presented the donation to House of Refuge Executive Director, Nancy Marion and Director of Program Services, Rachelle Smith. Marion responded to the contribution with these comments, "It is only through the generosity of the community and people like you that we are able to help our residents capture their piece of the American Dream, a stable life style, steady employment and the hopes of someday owning a home of their own. Please extend my appreciation to all at Wallick & Volk for this generous gift. You have made a difference in the lives of many homeless Arizonians today."
House of Refuge is a non-profit organization helping homeless families and individuals in crisis by providing transitional housing and supportive services that assist participants as they strive toward self-sufficiency. According to the House of Refuge website, close to 20% of Arizona families are living at or below the Federal Poverty Level. These families are living 'on the edge financially' and are often only an illness, accident or missed paycheck away from homelessness. The House of Refuge is committed to helping families address the issues that led to their homelessness and help curtail the cycle of poverty. With nearly 20 acres in east Mesa, the program offers 88 two-bedroom single family homes along with a chapel/support center.
Rogerson offered this reflection, "The House of Refugee is making a real difference in the lives of people in crisis right now. Approximately 100 adults and 150 children on any given day are provided with a safe home and social services to assist in every way you can imagine. We are thrilled that we could support this effort."
