Walls Farm Pictures Announces the Halloween Release of Covadonga, the Second Feature Film from Writer and Director Sean Hartofilis
NEW YORK, Oct. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Covadonga is a Gothic Irish folk horror freakout about a widowed songwriter at a wooded lakehouse who sees his dark past pervading when a mysterious young couple trespasses on his property. This story explores the inevitable darkness of life, our response to it, and how that dictates the world we live in, both through a personal tale of loss and our historical conflicts that persist to this day.
Covadonga has screened at festivals in Spain, Ireland, England, the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, Anthology Film Archives, and The Museum of the Moving Image, winning awards along the way including Best Film, Best Narrative, Best Score, Best Actor, and Best Director. It will be available worldwide on October 31 at www.covadonga.film.
Covadonga marks the feature film acting debut of Writer and Director Sean Hartofilis, who's first feature Beach Pillows starred Geoffrey Arend, Vincent Kartheiser, Annette O'Toole, and Richard Schiff, won Amsterdam Film Festival's Van Gogh World Cinema Screenwriting Award, premiered at the Lighthouse International Film Festival, and was released by Gravitas Ventures in 2014.
Here's some of what those who've seen Covadonga have said about it:
"Hartofilis is a grand talent and arresting screen presence." -Rick Kogan, Chicago Tribune
"The film is captivating from start to finish...and Hartofilis' leading performance is delivered with such twisted intensity yet loving mourning that excitement has built for what he may do next." -Will Stevenson, Viva Manchester
"Historians call the Battle of Covadonga, exactly 1,300 years ago, the 'mustard seed' that liberated Spanish Christians from Islamic rule. It might also be said that Covadonga the film is the mustard seed that launches the future career of a brilliant young Irish-American filmmaker Sean Hartofilis." -Mike Houlihan, The Irish Echo
"In Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Full Metal Jacket, a character's psychotic evil is often sold through their eyes—Covadonga's Martin Ravin is no different, and is potentially the most frightening." -Dominic Hastings, Set the Tape
"Sean Hartofilis is a great talent to keep on your radar, and Covadonga is what true indie filmmaking is all about." -Brian Sozinski, Reel Chicago
Covadonga is available for purchase or rental at www.covadonga.film, alongside the songs, music videos, reviews, interviews, and assorted extras. You can watch Covadonga on any Smart TV or streaming device (Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Android TV, Chromecast, Airplay, Samsung SMART TV, iOS, Android, etc.) and receive the soundtrack for free when you buy the film by emailing your purchase receipt to [email protected].
