Washington Auctioneer Wins International Auctioneer Champion Competition
ELTOPIA, Wash., Aug. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Booker Auction Company (www.bookerauction.com) is pleased to announce that Camille Booker, CAI, CES, recently won the title of International Auctioneer Champion (IAC) during a competition at the 62nd International Auctioneers Conference and Show in Orlando, Fla.
Eighty-three of the world's top male and female bid-calling auctioneers competed and were judged on their presentation, chant, voice timbre, body language, interview answers and other performance elements of effective auctioneering. Since the competition was created in 1988, IAC champions have been considered by industry professionals to be the best bid-calling auctioneers in the world.
"It was an honor to compete against so many talented auctioneers," said Booker, whose younger sister and brother also competed. In fact, competing runs in the family. Booker's uncle won the contest in 2008. "I am extremely excited. I've been watching my uncle compete ever since I've been going to conventions. As the years have progressed it's become more of a passion."
Booker, 29, a third-generation auctioneer, started out as a fashion model and thought of pursuing that career path. She had attended Reppert School of Auctioneering as a teen but didn't realize until she was attending the University of Washington that she wanted to join the family business she had grown up in. After graduating in 2004, she joined the business established by her father and grandfather in 1980.
Booker is a member of the National Auctioneers Association and the Washington Auctioneers Association, a graduate of the Certified Auctioneer Institute (CAI) and a Certified Estate Specialist (CES) designee. She conducts auctions throughout the inland Northwest.
Along with the men's division champion, Joseph Mast, Booker will serve as a spokesperson and ambassador for the quarter-trillion dollar auction industry. Booker lives in Kennewick, Wash.
"I know I've got big shoes to fill representing the industry this next year," said Booker, "but I look forward to the challenge!"
