Local 4's Morning News is up nearly 50% in key demographics

DETROIT, Nov. 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- With one day left to go in the November 2013 Nielsen rating period, WDIV-TV Local 4 is on the brink of scoring first place finishes in key newscasts, afternoons, access and late night programming.  Further, NBC/WDIV prime programming is tied for 1st place and 6 a.m. morning news has grown significantly year-to-year, while the competition has seen marked share declines. 

WDIV-TV Local 4's 1st place newscast finishes include:

  • Local 4 News First at 4 p.m. is #1 in the time period with a 6.8 household rating/17 share, a 13% share increase over a year ago.  Local 4 beats both Dr. Oz (WXYZ 4 p.m.) (3.1 RTG/8 SHR) and Judge Judy (4 p.m. WJBK) (4.2 RTG/11 SHR).  Additionally, Local 4's 4 p.m. news wins in every key demographic.
  • Local 4 News at 5 p.m. is #1 in the time period with a 7.5 household rating/16 share, beating both WXYZ (6.1 HH RTG/13 SHR) and WJBK (6.0 HH RTG/13 SHR).   Also, #1 in Adults 25-54 ratings.
  • Local 4 News at 6 p.m. is #1 in household ratings, garnering an 8.7 household rating/17 share (compared to WXYZ 7.3 RTG/14 SHR and WJBK 5.6 RTG/11 SHR).  Additionally, Local 4's 6 p.m. news won in every key demographic and is Detroit's undisputed #1 newscast across the board.
  • Local 4 News at 11 p.m. is #1 M-Sun with an 8.2 household rating/16 share (compared to WXYZ 7.6 RTG/15 SHR, WJBK 10pm 8.0 RTG/13 SHR, and WJBK 11pm (M-F) 5.1 RTG/10 SHR).   

Local 4 News Today (M-F 6-7a.m.), anchored by Rhonda Walker, Evrod Cassimy, Brandon Roux and Ashlee Baracy, grew significantly year-to-year, up 44% in the Adults 25-54 share, while the local morning news competitors fell by nearly 20%.

In other dayparts, WDIV's The Ellen DeGeneres Show is the #1 program in the M-F 3-4 p.m. time period and doubles Katie Couric's delivery in Women 25-54. Wheel Of Fortune and Jeopardy are #1 in the all important access time period of 7-8 p.m. averaging a 9.4 household rating/16 share.  WDIV's Access programming beat WJBK and WXYZ combined.  The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is #1 in the 11:35 p.m. time period with a 5.0 household rating/12 share, beating ABC's Jimmy Kimmel by 67% (5.0 vs. 3.0 rating).

NBC's primetime lineup anchored by The Voice, Blacklist, Chicago Fire, Parenthood, Sunday Night Football and comedies (Parks and Rec/Sean Saves the World/The Michael J. Fox show) will finish November tied for #1 in the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic.
