Weather May Cause Girl Scout Cookie Delays
LAFAYETTE, La., March 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Girl Scout Cookies ... everyone has their favorites, but every box regardless of flavor helps girls in the local community. This year there was an unexpected increase in demand for one type in particular, Thin Mints. The bakers have been working diligently to meet that demand, but councils across the nation are experiencing a shortage. That includes the council here in the 42 parishes west of the Mississippi River – Girl Scouts of Louisiana – Pines to the Gulf. Local Girl Scouts and volunteers are still rallying together to keep selling and reach their revenue goals despite the shortage of Thin Mints and the slow deliveries from trucks that are grounded due to winter weather, where the cookies ship from in Tennessee and Kentucky.
The council is working with the bakers, the delivery companies and the troops to make the best of the situation. While they work together to resolve these issues girls continue to sell at booths around the community. The Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches the girls five essential skills: goal setting, decision making, people skills, money management, and business ethics. With the guidance of caring volunteers the girls are putting those skills to work to make the best of an unexpected situation. "This is one of those moments for us to truly be positive role models for our girls and show them what being strong and courageous in difficult times," says Rachel Broussard, CEO of Girl Scouts of Louisiana – Pines to the Gulf. Broussard reminds everyone in the community that every box of cookies helps each and every girl in the council, and that all the money minus what is paid to the bakers remains here in the local council to provide excellent programming and deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to nearly 8,000 girls with the help of nearly 3,000 caring adult volunteers.
