TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeremy Lucas was 30 years old when he suffered a traumatic brain injury and lost a leg after a motorcycle accident. Lucas' mother Amelia was determined to care for her son at home, rather than sending him to a nursing home.
The Lucas' story tells how Amelia, once overwhelmed by her son's complex medical needs, was able to accomplish her goal with the help of Laura Gannon, a care manager for Staywell Health Plans, a WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) health plan dedicated to serving Medicaid members in Florida.
The video, produced by WellCare and Tampa-based production company Diamond View Studios, was recently named a Bronze winner in short form documentary by the 37th Annual Telly Awards. Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs as well as video and film productions. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and corporate video departments in the world.
The documentary illustrates how Staywell's personalized case management program delivered needed physical therapy, medical equipment and supplies for Jeremy, as well as respite care and emotional support for Amelia, making a marked difference in their lives.
"Our members often face unimaginable obstacles on their journeys to better health," said Crystal Warwell Walker, WellCare's senior director of external communications. "We tell these stories to celebrate their success and to inspire others. Jeremy's story is just one example of how our compassionate employees work hard to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our members every day."
"The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video," said Linda Day, executive director of the Telly Awards. "This accomplishment illustrates WellCare's and Diamond View Studios' creativity, skill and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production."
"We are invited into the homes of WellCare members and their families, and given the chance to capture the raw emotion that comes with their uplifting stories," said Jonathan Davila, executive producer of Diamond View Studios. "We are both honored by this recognition and humbled by the opportunity to tell WellCare member stories."
