ATLANTA and TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG), a leading provider of managed care services for government-sponsored health care programs, and The Children's Care Network, Inc., a physician-led, subsidiary corporation of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, today announced a two-year agreement that will align incentives to drive quality and efficiency of care achievements to improve health outcomes for children.
This partnership, a first for The Children's Care Network with a managed care organization, represents a new standard of collaboration that is designed to improve health outcomes and provide better experience of care for patients and their families. The Children's Care Network, Georgia's only clinically integrated pediatric network, is managing care for approximately 77,500 WellCare Medicaid members.
Under the agreement, WellCare will provide incentive payments to The Children's Care Network for quality-based improvements in certain Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) measures, a tool used by more than 90 percent of America's health plans to measure performance on important dimensions of care and service.
"Quality-based reimbursements represent a new standard of collaboration between managed care organizations and providers, better aligning payment with the value of care and health outcomes achieved," said Roman Kulich, WellCare's region president, Georgia and South Carolina. "This agreement incentivizes The Children's Care Network, which has access to the resources of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, to deliver quality care and positive outcomes in a cost effective way for nearly 80,000 of our Medicaid members."
"We believe bringing great pediatric doctors together with a leading children's hospital system, and working in an integrated way to deliver the best care and improve the health of those we serve is vital for the children of our community," said Karen DeGood, executive director of The Children's Care Network. "We are excited to have the opportunity to partner with WellCare to support these goals through an agreement that rewards improvements in quality and efficiency."
As of Sept. 30, 2015, WellCare serves approximately 590,500 Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids® plan members, 35,000 Medicare Advantage plan members and 23,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members in Georgia.
