Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance Supports Decision of Wellington Village Council to Deny Compatibility for Commercial Development
WELLINGTON, Fla., July 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wellington Equestrian Alliance applauds the decision of the Wellington Village Council to deny the compatibility determination for the Wellington "Equestrian" Village commercial development.
As the Wellington Equestrian Alliance has stated from the very beginning, including when this issue was first voted on in January, the Equestrian Village project as proposed is not compatible for several reasons including:
- There is too much massing – it is too big and too dense.
- It is not to scale with the existing development in the Equestrian Preserve.
- There is no data and analysis on the noise, odor, and lighting impact on the residents that live next door.
- There is no data for how the traffic will sync in peak hours with the other show grounds located on the same two lane road.
"We support an equestrian facility at this location and now that Mark Bellissimo has removed the hotel and commercial development from consideration there could be a better designed equestrian facility – one that takes into account the concerns of the community and that is compatible with the surrounding neighborhood," said Mat Forrest, Executive Director for the Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance.
It is important to note that this vote does not prohibit events from taking place at the current site. Equestrian Sport Productions can obtain a special use permit, like they have done for over two decades at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, and host as many Dressage or other equestrian events as they would like.
The Wellington Village Council intends to develop an Equestrian Master Plan and we are looking forward to working together with the Village, the Council, property owners and residents to create a Master Plan that everyone can be excited about it.
"We are confident that all of the equestrian disciplines will continue to thrive in Wellington in concert with the community and our unique surroundings. We can and will work together to ensure that all needs of the equestrian community are met and that the impacts generated by hosting equestrian events and supporting the equestrian industry will be adequately addressed and mitigated," added Forrest. "It is our sincere hope that Equestrian Sport Productions will participate in this process for the betterment of the entire Equestrian community in Wellington."
The Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance is a group of concerned citizens fighting to enhance Wellington, Florida's trademark Equestrian business and protect the local equestrian economy from over-development, rampant real estate speculation and shortsighted economic planning. www.wellingtonalliance.com
