LIVERMORE, Calif., Aug. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The United States Bocce Federation today announced the selection of Campo di Bocce of Livermore to host the 2016 National Bocce Championships slated for June 25th through July 2nd this coming year. www.campodibocce.com
This is the 5th time Campo di Bocce will have hosted this national sporting event.
"One of the reasons Campo di Bocce was chosen to host this competition is the fact that it is considered one of the top Bocce facilities in the U.S.," says United States Bocce Federation President, Jerry South.
Ben Musolf, COO at Campo di Bocce, said, "The event rotates each year from East to West. The 2015 Championships were held at great acclaim by the Sons of Italy Lodge in Methuen, MA, near Boston, and now it moves West."
The best players from across the United States will compete in three different competitions, from B level Open Bocce to A level Open Bocce to Punto, Raffa, Volo (the International game). Winners of the International competition will go on to the 2016 Pan-American games where U.S. players will compete with top teams from Chile and Argentina.
"It's a real honor to be chosen to host this U.S. Bocce championship," said Musolf, Tournament Chair and COO at Campo di Bocce.
This year Campo di Bocce will be making all events open to the public so that Bocce enthusiasts, beginners to competitive level, will be able to come and see the best in the U.S. compete.
Bocce as a sport is growing rapidly in popularity.
Per Musolf, "In the U.S. today, some 3 million Bocce enthusiasts enjoy competing in everything from league play to backyard social events. It's a sport anyone can play, anyone can compete in and anyone can enjoy. In fact the United States Bocce Federation is currently sponsoring introduction and instruction to the youth of America, so tomorrow's champions are being developed today. This 2016 U.S. Bocce Championships will most likely produce the Champions of tomorrow."
