WeThePeople44.org to Deliver Social Media Democracy to Politics

CHICAGO, Oct. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- WeThePeople44.org website debuts today as an online tool to gather community opinion and consensus.  The website will serve as an online town hall allowing registered voters, nonregistered voters and businesses to separately and securely present their ideas and concerns.  The site is the brainchild of Mark Thomas, long time entrepreneur and community activist in Chicago, who will be using the prototype site in his 2014 Chicago Aldermanic race in the 44^th Ward.

"Many people claim that they are bringing transparency and honesty to Chicago, but we actually created the tool that can accomplish it," said Mark Thomas, owner of a collection of businesses including The Alley Stores.  "If we are really, 'by the people and for the people,' then we needed a platform to engage and empower the community members.  WeThePeople44.org brings the power of online communities to ensure every voice can be heard."  

The site was created to support "Hyper-local Democracy," a term that reflects how small communities find a way to re-engage the majority of their stakeholders in a transparent way. Residents become involved in the process that determines what their communities look and act like, as well as their future.  In Chicago, there will be online and in person town hall meetings to supplement the online discussions.  These meetings will allow in-person attendance, online attendance and the ability for people to preregister to present at the meetings.  The sessions will also be archived so the community can watch itself as it evolves.
