What to do about Islamophobia? Authors of New Qur'an Tackle Presidential Debate's Unanswered Question
Unprecedented contemporary translation of Muslim Holy Book by Bridges to Common Ground is first to include more than 3,000 parallel references to the Bible
WASHINGTON, Oct. 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
WHAT: |
It was clear from last night's debate that neither candidate has a real answer for one of the undecided voter's questions regarding anti-Muslim sentiment in the U.S. But authors of a new Qur'an translation, "The Qur'an – with References to the Bible: A Contemporary Understanding," know the key is found in increasing understanding and building relationships between Muslims and people of other faiths. "The solution goes beyond 'Muslims reporting' on one another; it's about the larger faith community supporting each other," the authors state. "We believe that correcting the distortions of Islam that have led to the hatred and fear we see today is the most important thing we can do, and is exactly what our new project is about." |
WHO: |

DETAILS: |
This is the first translation of the Qur'an in contemporary English that includes more than 3,000 references to parallel passages in the Bible. Never before in the 1,400 years since the Qur'an was revealed has a Qur'anic translation into English been attempted along with cross-references to the previous books to which it speaks so highly. Included in the 3,000 parallel references to the Bible that are in the Qur'an are more than 100 mentions of Jesus (Esa), including many of the parables from the Gospels. The similarities within these Scriptures are not widely known to those in either Christian or Islamic cultures. An accurate understanding of these ancient texts often requires additional explanation, which is contained in the extensive study notes of this new translation. |
