When the Weather Outside is Frightful, 'Share Your Warmth' with Others

DALLAS, Dec. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Giving, getting and making resolutions often fill the final days of our calendar. But as this year comes to a close and temperatures continue to drop, former Dallas Cowboy and ESPN analyst Darren Woodson says it's time to Share Your Warmth with others.

Together with the Salvation Army and FanTree, a website that harnesses the power of the fan to make a difference, Share Your Warmth is donating warm-weather items to people in need. For each item purchased during the campaign, an identical item will be given to someone else who needs it this winter. The goal is to reach 10,000 items donated by January 15, 2013.

"Every year over 1,000 Americans die from hypothermia or exposure to extreme cold, with nearly 70 percent of those being homeless," said Woodson. As a board member of the Make a Wish Foundation, he is no stranger to philanthropic causes, and asks us to consider those who don't have the luxury of warmth as we gather around the fireplace this winter.

"When it gets cold, it's second nature to buy warm-weather items for ourselves," he said. "And while those keep us warm on the outside, it's just as important to stay warm on the inside. Knowing that we're making our community a warmer place for others in the New Year is what Share Your Warmth is all about."

Items available for purchase on www.thefantree.com include a fleece blanket, winter cap, gloves, kids mittens, a scarf and a hooded sweatshirt. All items include the Share Your Warmth logo, and all purchasers of the fleece blanket will have their name added to the logo.
