WhiteHat Security Enables National Instruments Web Security Team to Build Solid Foundation for Website Risk Management Program
National Instruments Implements WhiteHat Sentinel to Strengthen Security Posture, Improve Remediation and Develop Metrics for Website Security
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- WhiteHat Security, the leading provider of website risk management solutions, today announced the National Instruments (NI) adoption of WhiteHat Sentinel, WhiteHat Security's software-as-a-service (SaaS) website vulnerability management offering. NI, a global hardware and software provider, uses the WhiteHat Sentinel website risk management platform to assess its websites, increase visibility into its Web application security posture, with accurate, actionable vulnerability data and create a faster, more consistent and measurable remediation process.
NI turned to WhiteHat Security to incorporate an effective and strong website risk management program into its overall IT security operations. With more than 100 applications accessible to customers and partners, the NI security team wanted to make sure its time was allocated to problem solving instead of identifying vulnerabilities and sifting through the false positives generated by many automated scanning tools. In addition, the team needed an enterprise solution that could handle the unique 'faceted navigation' user interface on NI websites, which made it difficult for most automated desktop tools to accurately scan for vulnerabilities.
Josh Sokol, NI Informational Security Program Owner, and his team, invited five automated solution vendors to take part in an evaluation process. NI had a two-fold approach to assessing Web application solutions within its overall security program:
1. Find a solution that provides insight into its Web applications and potential vulnerabilities, and |

2. Make sure it accurately covers business-critical applications. |

After reviewing vendors, Sokol chose WhiteHat Sentinel for its ability to easily handle the faceted navigation interface and accurately identify all vulnerabilities, simplifying the remediation process and conserving development resources.
Another key part of the selection process was WhiteHat Sentinel's Open XML API, which enables integration of Sentinel's accurate vulnerability data with mitigation technologies such as Web application firewalls (WAFs) from F5 Networks and Imperva, and Snort-based intrusion prevention and detection systems. National Instruments is exploring these solutions to further strengthen its website risk management program. The WAF integration enables quick mitigation of website vulnerabilities, giving developers more time for remediation while reducing risk of attack.
"National Instruments is known for its ability to consistently produce innovative products that are bought and configured directly online. As most of our customers interact with us and purchase products via the Web, it is important to have a Web application security solution that ensures strong website security," said Sokol. "WhiteHat Sentinel gives us confidence in the accuracy of our website assessments, and a measurable, repeatable process enables us to reduce the potential for attacks. Moreover, the WhiteHat Security team is incredibly knowledgeable and provides us with full support and guidance underscoring that we made the right choice."
"It's encouraging to see leading companies like National Instruments understand the importance of website security and take steps to reduce their risk," said Bill Pennington, chief strategy officer, WhiteHat Security. "With Sentinel as the platform on which to build their website risk management program, NI now has the foundation from which to increase their corporate website security, while simplifying the remediation process."
