Wholesale Tire Distributor Chooses Kansas City Region for Newest Location
K&M Tire purchased 80,000-sq.-ft. warehouse in Lawrence; will open in August
LAWRENCE, Kan., July 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wholesale tire distributor K&M Tire Inc. has expanded to the Kansas City area. The company purchased an 81,640-sq.-ft. warehouse at 3801 Greenway Circle in Lawrence (35 miles west of downtown Kansas City, Mo.), and plans to open for business in early August.
K&M Tire will deliver passenger, light truck, commercial truck, farm and utility tires to tire retailers in Kansas and Missouri out of its new location.
"The Kansas City area is an excellent geographic fit for K&M Tire, and we anticipate this new location will grow to be one of our highest sales volume warehouses west of the Mississippi. Several of our tire manufacturers have stepped up to show their support of our decision to move in to this area," said Cheryl Gossard, vice president of K&M Tire.
The Kansas City region has the lowest truckload shipment costs and the most central location in the United States. Kansas City boasts more freeway-lane miles per capita than any other U.S. city, and is one of only a few U.S. cities in which four interstates intersect. Five major railroads serve the metro making Kansas City the largest rail hub in the nation in terms of tonnage.
"Due to our region's central location, low costs and transportation assets, the Kansas City area is an ideal location for K&M Tire to grow and succeed," said Bob Marcusse, president and CEO of the Kansas City Area Development Council, which works to attract business and industry to an 18-county metro region.
The Kansas City Area Development Council, the Kansas Department of Commerce, the City of Lawrence, the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Kessinger/Hunger & Co., LC, Colliers International and KC SmartPort worked together to bring K&M Tire to the Kansas City area.
