WHY Racing Events Offers Kids 17 Years and Younger to Race for FREE at All Remaining 5Ks on Their 2018 Schedule
VANCOUVER, Wash., Aug. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to combat childhood obesity and encourage kids to set a goal, train and cross the finish line, WHY Racing Events is offering kids 17 years and younger free registration at all remaining 2018 WHY Racing Events 5Ks, including the Inaugural Columbia River Sunset 5K, the APPLETREE Sunset 5K, the Girlfriends Run for a Cure 5K, and the Scary Run 5K.
"In the United States, the percentage of children and adolescents affected by obesity has more than tripled since the 1970s when I was a kid," said Sherri McMillan, the owner of WHY Racing Events. "Nearly one in five school age children and young people has obesity. We've got to get these kids off their electronic devices and outside playing, training and experiencing the joy of racing and the accomplishment of crossing the finish line. If we can provide a venue that is family-friendly and enable a family to register, train and race together, an entire family can be positively impacted."
The entry fees for kids 17 years and under were already significantly discounted 60-70% off normal rates at WHY Racing Events, but McMillan states, "We wanted to remove all barriers and make racing together as a family more accessible so it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to do a race together with your kids! Allowing kids to race for free will be a big help to families!"

Parents still need to register their children, but the registration fee for 17 and under is set to $0.
