WIFF Presents Over 60 Films in 9 Days

 
 

The Women's International Film and Arts Festival Celebrates its Fifth Anniversary with a distinct line-up

MIAMI, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The Women's International Film & Arts Festival, (WIFF) chaired by Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and headlined by Hollywood star, Vivica A. Fox kicks off on March 26 and runs through Saturday, April 3, 2010. Over the course of 9 days, a diverse selection of 68 films will be screened from over 30 countries including: Brazil, England, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Hungary, India, Canada, Australia, Liberia, Singapore, Spain and many more.

This year's festival offers film lovers an exciting week full of events that include screenings for feature films, world cinema, innovative independent flicks, international documentaries, and short films celebrating the lives of women around the world. In addition, the festival will offer workshops, panel discussions, luncheons and parties held throughout South Florida.

With women representing only 5% of filmmakers globally, WIFF -- a non-profit founded in 2005 by Yvonne McCormack-Lyons was created to bring women artists from all over the world together in South Florida to explore, share and dialogue about issues concerning women through the arts.

"Our fifth anniversary event comes on the heels of the first woman in 82 years to win the prestigious Oscar for Best Director; Katherine Bigelow. We're excited about the strides women are making in the industry and look forward to showcasing the visions, dreams and voices these woman offer the cinematic world," said Yvonne McCormack-Lyons, President and Executive Director of WIFF.

Some of the films featured include; Macho like Me by National Bestselling Author of Still Life With Rice Helie Lee; JunkYard Dog Directed by Kim Bass and Produced by Deanna Shapiro starring Hollywood Actress, Vivica A. Fox; The Shadow Effect by New York Times Bestselling Author of Why Good People Do Bad Things Debbie Ford and Cloggers by Star of the Parent Trap Elaine Hendrix and more.

Screenings will be held across South Florida: The Miami Science Museum, The Lou Rawls Theater at Florida Memorial University, The Tower Theater and The Cosford Cinema at the University of Miami.
