Wildfire Evacuation Safety Aided By Innovative Smoke Hood From ILC Dover

FREDERICA, Del., June 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ILC Dover, the manufacturer of innovative protective equipment for the most demanding applications including spacesuits for NASA and gas masks for the military, announced today that the recent wildfires in New Mexico and across the west have created an increased interest in its SCape® CO/CBRN 30 escape mask, which will be available to the public beginning July 2012.  The NIOSH-approved respirator is the only one available that protects against carbon monoxide (CO) and other fire-borne chemical toxins.  Most victims of fire are not injured by heat or flames, but rather by smoke and gases, especially carbon monoxide.  Protection from CO could mean the difference between life and death for people trying to evacuate the fire zone during a wildfire.  Massive wildfires are currently burning in New Mexico, Colorado and several other western states.
