PALO ALTO, Calif., April 11, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, announced today that Georgia C. Ravitz and James "Jamie" R. Ravitz have joined the firm's life sciences practice as partners in the Washington, D.C., office. They will focus on FDA regulatory, healthcare, and consumer products innovation and compliance.
Georgia Ravitz focuses on food and drug law and regulatory policy governing the regulation and promotion of medical devices, pharmaceuticals (including OTCs), health and beauty aids (cosmetics), dietary supplements, vitamins, food and agribusiness, tobacco and e-cigarettes, cannabis, and a wide variety of consumer goods and emerging consumer technologies. She counsels U.S. and foreign manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and importers of regulated products in all phases of their product lifecycle, from innovation through product commercialization and ongoing post-market compliance.
Jamie Ravitz represents manufacturers and distributors of products that are extensively regulated by the FDA, including medical devices (including digital applications), drugs, biologics, food, cannabis, dietary supplements, and cosmetic products. He also counsels clients on all aspects of the marketing of such products, including labeling, advertising, and internet promotion. A large part of his practice includes healthcare compliance matters facing regulated companies, including broad-based fraud and abuse laws, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the False Claims Act, the Sunshine Act, patient privacy statutes, and equivalent state laws.
"It's hard to overstate the importance of procuring regulatory approvals from the FDA and other agencies to life science companies, but there are also formidable obstacles involved with maintaining compliance throughout the product life cycle—from the manufacturing and marketing stages to retail channels and, ultimately, consumers," said Doug Clark, the firm's managing partner. "Georgia and Jamie have highly complementary and collaborative practices covering the legal advice clients need as to FDA, healthcare, and consumer protection matters. Their addition to our life sciences team will be of immediate benefit to our clients, so we are certainly delighted Georgia and Jamie have joined the firm."
"Wilson Sonsini has an established market position in the life sciences industry and an experienced team of legal professionals who have worked with both growing and established companies in the biopharmaceutical, digital health, and medical device area sectors," said Georgia Ravitz.
"This is an opportunity for Georgia and I to leverage our respective practices, and to help the firm's life sciences clients throughout critical regulatory approval and product cycle phases. We look forward to working with our new colleagues and collaborating with the firm's clients," added Jamie Ravitz.
Prior to joining WSGR, both Georgia and Jamie Ravitz, who are siblings, were partners at Arent Fox in the firm's Washington, D.C., office. Georgia Ravitz was a senior partner in the firm's FDA and advertising practices, and led the firm's consumer product safety practice. Jamie Ravitz led the FDA and healthcare life sciences practice.
Georgia Ravitz, a recipient of the 2019 "BTI Client Service All-Star Attorney" award, earned her J.D. from Emory University School of Law in 1989, and received her B.A. from Skidmore College in 1985. Her professional activities include the Food and Drug Law Institute, the Association of Food and Drug Officials, and the Lawyers for Children America. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and events, and a regular contributor to leading trade and consumer media outlets. She is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New Jersey.
Jamie Ravitz earned his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1998, and received his B.A. from Brandeis University in 1993. Jamie Ravitz is on the editorial advisory boards for two life sciences industry publications: BNA, Inc. – Medical Device Law & Industry, Medical Product Outsourcing, and FDAnews Devices and Diagnostic Newsletter. He is also a longtime columnist for Medical Product Outsourcing and frequently presents at industry conferences. Jamie Ravitz is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Illinois.
