#WithAKiss You Can Empower Young Women to be Proactive About Their Health
For every "kiss" shared on Instagram and Twitter using #WithAKiss David's Bridal will donate $1 to non-profit Bright Pink®
CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., April 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- It's time to pucker up for a cause! Beginning today, David's Bridal will donate $1 (up to $100,000) to Bright Pink for every kiss sent on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #WithAKiss! Whether it's kissing a significant other, child, pet, friends or a "selfie smooch", everyone is encouraged to "send a kiss" by tagging someone they care about to help spread the word and educate women on the importance of being proactive about their health from an early age.
Bright Pink, a national non-profit focused on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer, empowers young women to take action against breast and ovarian cancer by taking proactive steps towards risk reduction and detection at early stages. As a brand with a customer base that is primarily comprised of young women, David's Bridal feels a social responsibility to share Bright Pink's important message with their customers. The #WithAKiss campaign encourages everyone to get involved in raising funds in order to help support the important initiatives of Bright Pink, including education and prevention.
For those who don't have an Instagram or Twitter account but would like to participate, they are invited to email their kiss selfie to [email protected] and Bright Pink and David's Bridal will share the photos on their social media pages with the #WithAKiss hashtag.
Bright Pink and David's Bridal unveiled their partnership in February with the announcement of planned integrated awareness and educational campaigns for David's Bridal's customers, the first of which was an opportunity to complete Bright Pink's Assess Your Risk tool and register for Breast Health Reminders™ on DavidsBridal.com. In addition, David's Bridal donated $1 for every entry in their Dream Wedding Pinterest Contest, which had more than 19,000 pages created and resulted in a $20,000 donation.
"Our partnership with David's Bridal will enable Bright Pink to put life-saving information in the hands of women throughout the country, thereby empowering them to live longer, healthier lives. We're grateful for the opportunity to intervene at such a critical moment in a young woman's life and to work closely with David's Bridal to ensure she is educated to make the most of her bright future," said Lindsay Avner, Founder and CEO of Bright Pink.
"As our customers celebrate the beginning of a new future, we believe it is an important time for her to make proactive health decisions," said Pamela Wallack, CEO & President of David's Bridal. "We chose to partner with Bright Pink® because we believe in their mission to empower young women and raise awareness of the steps that can be taken to help with early detection or risk reduction for breast and ovarian cancer. And the #WithAKiss social media campaign is a fun way she can get involved and share the message with her friends and loved ones while supporting a great organization."
Bright Pink was founded in 2007 by Lindsay Avner. Inspired by her strong family history and personal breast and ovarian cancer risk assessment, Lindsay came to realize the lack of resources available to women like her, who were young and healthy, but wanted to be proactive with their health. There are 52 million women in the US between the ages of 18 and 45. All are at some risk for breast and ovarian cancer. The average woman's lifetime risk of breast cancer is 1 in 8 or 12%, making it the leading cancer diagnosis in the US. The average woman's lifetime risk of ovarian cancer is 1 in 67, and it is the deadliest gynecologic disease; two thirds of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will die as a result. But when detected early, the 5-year survival rate for both of these diseases is greater than 92%. Bright Pink focuses on the power each and every one of those 52 million women has to be proactive – to reduce her risk for these cancers or detect them early, while they are still treatable.
