The Future Generation Art Prize (FGAP) ceremony, organized by the well-known Ukrainian arts patron Viktor Pinchuk , took place in Kyiv over the weekend. The event was marked by high-rate organization and was attended, among others, by the directors of the Foundation Guggenheim, Richard Armstrong , the Paris center Pompidou, Alfred Paquement, and London Tate museum conglomerate, Nicholas Serota .

The atmosphere at the event was very lively. English artist, entrepreneur, and art collector Damien Hirst was exchanging opinions with Mykolai Rydny, a member of SOSka art club. Ukrainian designer Iryna Karavay was anxious about mingling with her world-famous colleague and member of FGAP's Board of Trustees - Miuccia Prada.

The director of exhibitions at the London White Cube gallery Tim Marlow served as an anchorman.

Young Brazilian artist Cinthia Marcelle was awarded the first prize. The head of the FGAP's jury, the director of the Moderna Musset of Stockholm Daniel Birnbaum, expressed his admiration for "the choreographic symbiosis of landscape and performance" in Cinthia's video-works. Hirst, in his turn, called the Brazilian artist "everyone's favourite". Prior to FGAP, Marcelle has become a recipient of various art awards, such as the annual TrAIN artist in residency award at Gasworks, London, 2009. The Special Prize went to a Romanian artist Nicolae Mircea for his collection of mini kiosks.

The closing of the ceremony featured video-reference by the Chinese artist, curator, architectural designer, social commentator, and activist Ai WaiWai, who is currently kept under home arrest by the Chinese authorities. In the very end, the art quartet of Andreas Gursky , Damien Hirst , Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami entered the stage.

The Future Generation Art Prize ceremony took place for the first time but everyone is certain that the tradition will live on. The event promises to attract more and more young artist to Ukraine, as well as professionals and collectors looking for bright young talents among Ukrainians.
