PALM BAY, Fla., June 2, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For a relaxing day out on the water, there's nothing like it; you paddle along, maybe spot some birds, a turtle or an alligator. "We saw all of that," says U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jeehae Choe. "We even saw a manatee up close and personal. Definitely an incredible experience."
Kayaking isn't new to Jeehae. She has been paddling along Florida's waters for many years, but she says time on the water with other wounded veterans is exciting. "I love getting together with them, especially when I can show them my neck of the woods."
Wounded Warrior Project®(WWP) recently sponsored the kayaking adventure on Turkey Creek in Palm Bay, Florida where Jeehae lives. Events bring warriors together to relax, and build relationships, through shared similar experiences.
"It was enjoyable," says Arnaldo Polanco, U.S. Army veteran. "Because of the injuries I received in Iraq, I worried I wouldn't make it through the whole kayaking tour, but everyone was so patient, and my wife and I could set our own pace."
"It was out of our comfort zone – we had never been kayaking before," says Angie Polanco. "Thankfully, the amazing WWP program staff encouraged us every step of the way."
Angie and Arnaldo say it was also nice talking to other warriors and family support members over lunch. "We've lived in this community for a while, but we don't know a lot of other injured service members." Angie and Arnaldo not only made some new friends, but the kayaking adventure gave them a break from the stress of daily life.
