Wyle Wins $49 Million U.S. Air Force Human Performance Contract
Wyle to Provide Human Performance Assessments For USAF School of Aerospace Medicine
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Oct. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Wyle has been awarded a $49 million contract to conduct medical research for the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine to improve human performance in the areas of enroute care, force health protection, expeditionary medicine, operational medicine and human performance.
Called the Quick Reaction Assessments, Studies, Analysis, Evaluation and Research (QUASAR) program, Wyle will lead an internationally recognized team of aeromedical research institutions and subject matter experts to provide services on a series of task orders spread over a six-year period for the 711th Human Performance Wing of the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory.
"This is an important strategic win for Wyle," said Bill Ercoline , Wyle's QUASAR program manager. "This is a natural extension of the highly specialized medical support work that Wyle has conducted during the past four decades for combat aircraft pilots and astronauts alike."
Work will be performed at Wyle team facilities and at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio and potentially at other Department of Defense installations.
For more than 40 years, Wyle has supported the Department of Defense's Science and Technology Program by providing science, technology and research, development and test support in aircrew performance and protection to the Air Force Research Laboratory's Human Effectiveness Directorate and the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks City-Base, San Antonio, Tex.
"We have the ideal combination of clinical, research and operations expertise along with a broad array of specialized facilities to successfully meet the program requirements in support of warfighters," said Ercoline.
Most recently Wyle's aeromedical expertise has been engaged by the school to resolve mission critical F-22 issues which demanded support from Wyle's subject matter experts as well as access to the company's specialized facilities.
The outcomes of the QUASAR program will enhance the continuum of care during transport of patients from point of injury to point of definitive care; the prevention of injury and illness and the early recognition or detection of emerging threats; expeditionary medical care during contingency operations; definitive patient care/treatment in garrison; and operational human performance across the spectrum of Air Force warfighter operations.
Benefits of Wyle's work will be disseminated throughout the Air Force via the Air Force Medical Services operation, which gathers medical research needs from Air Force major commands and form the basis for medical research projects.
Wyle, a privately held company, is a leading provider of high tech aerospace engineering and information technology services to the federal government on long-term outsourcing contracts. The company also provides test and evaluation of aircraft, weapon systems, networks, and other government assets; and other engineering services to the aerospace, defense, and nuclear power industries.
