xG Technology Showcases Superiority of its Interference Mitigation Capabilities at Communications Demonstration
Company's Patented Technology is the Key Enabler of Spectrum Sharing and Reliable Wireless Communications
SARASOTA, Fla., Oct. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- xG Technology, Inc. ("xG" or the "Company") (Nasdaq: XGTI, XGTIW), a developer of wireless communications and spectrum sharing technologies, is pleased to announce that it has again demonstrated the superiority of its patented interference mitigation capabilities in a demanding communications environment.
Over the course of live demonstrations conducted recently at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, the xMax system was subjected to deliberately-generated interfering signals that were applied at increasing power levels. xMax was able to withstand the interference and continue delivering flawless voice and video transmissions. This attribute is one of the defining characteristics of xG's cognitive radio technology, and helps set it apart from competitors' technology. It also represents the solution to using wireless spectrum assets more efficiently and enables operators to share spectrum as per the recent FCC suggestions.
Maintaining reliable communications, whether in the face of conditions caused by natural environmental factors, or intentionally malicious activities, is a continuous challenge for wireless systems. The growing demand for data by users of smartphones, tablets and laptops has only exacerbated the problem, by adding additional interference to wireless networks as well as constricting already overstretched spectrum assets.
The latest approach to dealing with such interference challenges has been Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA), which is essentially an attempt to avoid interference. By contrast, xG Technology is the only company to utilize an innovative, layered cognitive radio approach in which intelligent and active interference mitigation plays a dominant role. The addition of advanced interference mitigation algorithms to our DSA capabilities allows Max to greatly increase the carrying capacity of both existing private and unlicensed spectrum. This delivers key benefits to wireless planners in a number of sectors that deal with limited spectrum resources, such as government agencies, public safety and emergency management.
"The results of this latest demonstration underscore again the ability of the xMax cognitive radio system to remain operational in the face of difficult transmission conditions," said John Coleman, CEO of xG Technology. "Interference mitigation is a central part of xG's growing intellectual property portfolio, and the primary attribute that substantially and significantly differentiates the xMax cognitive radio solution from competitors' offerings. Our technology has a vital role to play in enabling spectrum sharing, which will help free up potentially billions of dollars in underutilized spectrum, while enhancing network capacity and performance for users in a wide array of sectors."
About xG Technology
xG Technology has created a broad portfolio of intellectual property that makes wireless networks more intelligent, accessible, affordable and reliable. The company has created xMax, a patented all-IP cognitive radio technology that enables robust mobile broadband communications for private, consumer and government networks. xMax can solve the crisis facing the wireless industry caused by data-hungry devices and applications that are straining network capacity. It eliminates the need to acquire scarce and expensive licensed spectrum, thus lowering the total cost of ownership for wireless broadband access. xG's goal is to help wireless broadband networks deliver voice, video and data services to fixed and mobile users. The xMax cognitive radio system incorporates advanced optimizing technologies that include spectrum sharing, interference mitigation, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and software defined radio (SDR). These and other technologies make xMax ideal for wide area, as well as rapid emergency communication deployment. xG offers solutions for numerous industries worldwide, including urban and rural wireless broadband, utilities, defense, emergency response and public safety.
