Xunlight Awarded Key Patent, Lowers Barriers to Local Manufacture of Flexible Solar Modules
TOLEDO, Ohio, May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Xunlight Corporation, a leader in the design, development and manufacture of flexible and lightweight thin-film silicon solar modules and production equipment, announced today that it has been granted US utility patent "AN ISOLATION CHAMBER AND METHOD OF USING THE ISOLATION CHAMBER TO MAKE SOLAR CELL MATERIAL" by USPTO on May 08, 2012. This patent protects the Gen II roll-to-roll thin film silicon solar cell manufacturing machines now being offered by Xunlight, and is a key addition to Xunlight's IP portfolio. Xunlight's equipment combines four roll-to-roll processes into a single vacuum machine (substrate cleaning, back-reflector deposition, PECVD thin film silicon deposition, ITO sputter deposition), and offers several advantages:

- 15MW to 35 MW turnkey plant producing IEC/UL qualified flexible lightweight PV products
- A single machine produces flexible, multi-junction, thin film silicon solar cells on 36" wide, 8000 foot long rolls of 5 mil thick stainless steel substrate at low cost with high yields
- Semiautomatic PV module assembly line using robots
- Low-cost high throughput lamination line
- Low-cost testing equipment
- Low capital investment
Xunlight Corporation's equipment division offers many manufacturing solutions to enable its customers to produce UL and IEC solar modules. Entrepreneurs will like the highly flexible module manufacturing equipment which is capable of producing a wide array of finished solar modules. With minimal capital investment and low overhead required to start production, there has never been an easier opportunity to start producing your own PV modules.
Local, state and federal governments and development agencies will enjoy the scalability Xunlight's equipment offerings can bring to them. We can provide a module assembly line that can be used to process Xunlight-supplied flexible solar cells into finished modules that qualify for locally made status. With this in place, Xunlight can supply a complete 15 MW/yr turnkey factory to process raw materials to into flexible multi-junction solar cells using a roll-to-roll process, ensuring a local supply of this technology-intensive upstream component. This scalable, three-step approach is expected to allow manufacture of 15MW/yr of flexible multi-junction solar modules with just a $1.5 million equipment investment, starting from finished and tested cells supplied by Xunlight.
