Yao Family Wines Enters the U.S. Wine Market
ST. HELENA, Calif., Nov. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Yao Family Wines, the Napa Valley wine company founded by former NBA star Yao Ming, today announced its entry into the U.S. wine market following its launch in mainland China. The company debuted in 2011 with its inaugural Yao Ming® 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and later released the Yao Ming® 2009 Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
Yao Family Wines will distribute a limited supply of Yao Ming® 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Yao Ming® 2009 Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon to select wine shops and restaurants in limited markets across the U.S. Distribution will be spearheaded by Regal Wine Company in California, as well as key wholesalers in additional markets. Yao Family Wines will also offer limited allocations to those who join the Yao Family Wines Mailing List at www.yaofamilywines.com.
"This has been an exciting year for us," said Yao Ming, Founder and Proprietor of Yao Family Wines. "Our goal from the beginning has been to produce wines that showcase Napa Valley quality and represent this amazing wine region. I think we've done that here, and done it well, creating something that we are all very proud of."
Yao Family Wines sources its fruit from established Napa Valley vineyards. Artisan techniques are used throughout the winemaking process to express the character of the vineyards in the wines. The wines are aged exclusively in 100% French Oak barrels for up to 18 months for the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and 24 months for the Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Individual barrels from each lot are hand selected by taste; only the best lots are used in the final blends. The suggested retail price of the Yao Ming® 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is $170 (750 ml) and $625 (750 ml) for the Yao Ming® 2009 Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
"We are thrilled to introduce our wines to the U.S. market," said Tom Hinde, President and Director of Winemaking at Yao Family Wines. "Since our international launch, we've enjoyed a tremendous reception in China and both wines have been very well received by critics and the wine trade. Our wines have received top honors and high scores internationally, driving people's interest to taste and purchase them."
The labels for the Yao Ming® wines were designed by celebrated California designer, Chuck House. They feature a hand-drawn illustration of Napa Valley with the ancient Chinese character for "Yao," elegantly representing both cultures in which Yao Ming has made his home.
