Yearbook of World Electronics Data Volume 3 East Europe & World Summary
NEW YORK, Dec. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Annual survey of the electronics industry in East Europe providing production data for the period 2013-2016 and market data for the period 2013-2019. The data is supplied for 13 countries and 13 major product groups. In addition to the main report a unique World Summary is provided for the 53 countries covered in the Yearbook Series (Production Data 2013-2016 & Market Data 2013-2019)
In the context of the global electronics industry East Europe, at US$51.5 billion, accounted for 3% of electronics output in 2015 and held a 4% share of the global market at US$76.1 billion, both production and markets being negatively impacted when expressed in US dollars due to currency fluctuations.
To the east Russia and the Ukraine accounted for 8% and 21% of production and the market, respectively in 2015. The current conflict in the region and the sharp decline in their respective economies has impacted both production and the market and is expected to continue to subdue demand over the short-term. In the longer-term and assuming the current situation is resolved the market will gradually rebound and in turn lead to an upturn in foreign investment although the time scale is still uncertain.
The electronics industry in the remainder of Eastern Europe accounted for 92% of electronics production and 79% of the market in 2015. The region's position as an emerging market, the close proximity to Western Europe and lower manufacturing costs has resulted in significant foreign investment by some of the world's leading electronics groups, with the focus on computing, communications and consumer electronics. Within CEE volume manufacturing in the core 3C segments is focused on the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Turkey. In 2015, the share of 3C accounted for of overall production ranged from 59% in Hungary, to 81% in the Czech Republic, 83% in Slovakia, 82% in Poland and Turkey 87%. The focus on 3C has been a key factor in the growth of electronics industry across CEE. However, with volume
manufacturing in the hands of a relatively few companies the region will be vulnerable to their individual production strategies. An example has been witnessed by the sharp decline in the production of mobile phones in Hungary where output in value terms has fallen by over 90% between 2010 and 2015.
