Young Survival Coalition was founded in 1998 by three women diagnosed with breast cancer under the age of 35 who were discouraged by the lack of information available to young women diagnosed with the disease. YSC reaches over 200,000 people every year virtually through youngsurvival.org, Facebook, Twitter and in their local communities through nearly 30 affiliate across the U.S.
"Partnering with Oakley not only raises awareness about breast cancer in young women, but also expands YSC's reach to healthy young women worldwide," said Anna Cluxton, President, YSC Board of Directors. "Through the sales of the YSC collection, Oakley continues to be a strong partner, helping us to ensure that no young woman is left to face breast cancer alone. We are truly grateful for Oakley's ongoing support."
Oakley's support of the coalition began in October of 2008 with the launch of special renditions of Oakley Ravishing® and Enduring® sunglasses. Continuing its support in 2009, the company added two additional sunglass styles, Commit® and Dangerous®.
Oakley plans to continue its support of YSC with the launch of three new products in the collection. They will include unique renderings of Oakley Discreet™ sunglasses (a universally flattering shape with flirty details), Hearsay™ prescription frames (a design that strikes a balance between practicality and fun in ophthalmic-specific eyewear), and the Oakley Stockholm™ goggle (a premium performance design, engineered for a comfortably precise fit on the female face). All will carry symbolic pink highlights.
"It is an honor to represent the Oakley women who have helped us to reach this amazing $1 million milestone in support," said Oakley Women's Brand Director, Jenn Bradley. "We are inspired by the courageous young women who are battling breast cancer and believe in what the Young Survival Coalition is doing to help them face this challenge together."
The dedicated YSC page on Oakley's website also includes an Online Memorial and Dedication Wall where visitors can honor and celebrate the lives of their family members and friends affected by cancer.
