Zafirro Sells Out of New Sapphire Blade Razor Before Launch
Zafirro Sold All Existing Inventory of Its New Zafirro Titanium Through Pre-Launch Announcement
PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Zafirro, LLC today announced the launch of the Zafirro Titanium. More notable, however, was the news that the company sold out of the existing inventory of the $2,000 sapphire blade razors over the weekend to customers who got advanced access to the new product by signing up for Zafirro's email list or through one of the company's social media sites.
"The response has been fantastic" said Zafirro CEO Hayden Hamilton. "All of the sudden our biggest problem is finding a way to ramp up manufacturing to meet demand. Given the complexity of the manufacturing processes, it's not a problem that we can easily solve in the short-run, but as problems go, it's a nice one to have."
Zafirro now has a growing waiting list for the Titanium. The company's goal is to fulfill all orders they receive this month before the holiday season, but it's not a goal to which they can firmly commit.
"We'll be able to fulfill all of our current orders in time for the holidays," said Ryan McCarthy, Zafirro's head of manufacturing and development, "but if the orders continue at the current pace over the next few weeks, we won't be able to guarantee delivery of new orders before the end of the year."
The Zafirro Titanium was designed in Portland, Oregon and is primarily manufactured in the US using some of the most advanced manufacturing processes available today, including robotic milling and high-energy, ionized particle sharpening.
The titanium alloy used in the handle is Grade 38 titanium, the strongest and most corrosion resistant titanium ever developed. Up to this point Grade 38 titanium has been used almost exclusively in advanced military and aerospace applications such as the Phoenix Mars lander.
Zafirro's white sapphire blades last far longer than steel, are hypoallergenic, impervious to oxidation and corrosion, and very sharp. The edge is less than 100 atoms in width, 5,000 times smaller than the width of a hair.
Zafirro has announced three new products since they launched in late June. The company doesn't plan to launch any new products following the Titanium for the foreseeable future.
