The forum marked the third time in recent months that Zebra executives have testified before Congress or participated in Capitol Hill discussions. Zebra continues to share its vision of the value IoT brings to the U.S. economy based on Zebra's leading role in delivering the benefits of IoT through enterprise asset intelligence solutions for business, government and non-profit customers.
- Zebra testified in March before the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing & Trade on wearable IoT-based technologies.
- In May, the company worked with the House IoT Caucus in creating a panel to present the latest IoT developments and prototypes in healthcare and recommendations on IoT policy.
- Zebra also submitted comments to the National Telecommunications & Information Administration on key issues related to IoT development.
David Coons, Vice President, Software and Advanced Solutions, Specialty Printing Group, Zebra
"With the advent of IoT, devices are being enhanced with additional sensing capabilities and are increasingly connected to the internet. The data flow from these sensors permits unheard of levels of real-time insight into the status and behavior of complex systems and processes. This visibility into operations allows a new level of thinking about how organizations can optimize performance and create competitive advantage, and it opens up new business models around how insight and analysis can be offered as a service."
As part of his full statement, Coons shared, "In the near term, we will innovate to meet the needs of our customers, but we are very interested in shaping and contributing to the evolution of standards which build upon the best work done by government, industry and academia. The primary policy challenge is to foster an environment that supports the rapid development, deployment and subsequent advancement of secure IoT-enabled technologies in a manner that simultaneously addresses concerns over data security, encryption and privacy. The goal must be to encourage the development and deployment of technologies which provide enhanced, secure and real-time visibility, and access to information in a way that empowers workers to undertake more effective, timely actions."
