DETROIT, April 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ZocDoc arrives in Greater Detroit today with the mission of improving access to medical care for local residents. ZocDoc, a free service for patients, is a one-stop resource for researching doctors and making appointments instantly online. At launch, the service offers appointments with participating primary care doctors, obstetrician-gynecologists and dermatologists throughout the Detroit area.
To use the service, patients visit the ZocDoc website (www.zocdoc.com) or use one of the free ZocDoc apps to enter their location, insurance plan, and the type of healthcare provider they would like to see. ZocDoc then shows each doctor's schedule in real-time, along with credentials and patient reviews, to help patients choose the practitioner who best fits their needs. Patients simply select a timeslot and complete a brief checkout process to book an appointment. ZocDoc then sends email and text message reminders to help patients remember to attend their doctor visits. ZocDoc also offers free mobile applications allowing patients to find doctors and make appointments while away from the computer.
"It takes Detroit area residents 12 days on average to get in to see a doctor, and at ZocDoc, we think that's unacceptable," said Massoumi. "We're committed to bringing better access to doctors to the region because it shouldn't be so difficult to manage your health."
ZocDoc's unique system reveals a hidden supply of doctor availability, including appointments cancelled last-minute by patients, and makes it instantly accessible online. This increase in doctor utilization reduces wait times for patients and increases efficiency for medical providers – a vital service given the country's current doctor shortage. Forty percent of all appointments scheduled by ZocDoc users occur within one day, and 60 percent of ZocDoc appointments take place within three days.
As of today, primary care physicians, obstetrician-gynecologists, and dermatologists are offering appointments across Detroit and the surrounding area. Additional Detroit doctors, specialties, and appointment times will be added in the coming months.
The Detroit region is the 17th area to welcome ZocDoc's service. ZocDoc currently offers medical appointments in major metropolitan areas including Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami-Palm Beach, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, DC.
