The chart looks at the difference between each survey respondent's stated expected return for his/her investment portfolio and a model expected return that is based on each respondent's own asset allocation and outlook for the stock market in 2005. According to the Northern Trust survey, 40 percent of respondents had stated expectations two percentage points or higher than the model expectations.
