2013 'Hungry for Happiness' Tour Visits 30 Cities to Help End Childhood Hunger in America The Arby's Foundation and Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry Campaign Raise Visibility of Free Summer Meals Available to Children during Vulnerable Summer Months

ATLANTA, May 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the country's largest mobile kitchens has embarked on its second Hungry for Happiness mobile tour to raise awareness about childhood hunger and increase participation in free summer meal programs in communities nationwide. Summer continues to be a vulnerable time for children who rely on free or reduced price federal school breakfast and lunch programs during the school year.

WHO: The Arby's Foundation, in partnership with Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry® campaign, is committed to helping all kids get the food they need every day.

WHAT: The Arby's Foundation launched the Hungry for Happiness mobile tour, where the 18-wheel Arby's Foundation event vehicle will travel to 30 U.S. cities to increase enrollment in summer meals sites in those communities while also raising awareness of the issue of the childhood hunger and highlighting available resources.

The Hungry for Happiness tour will stop at designated summer meal sites to deliver fun summer activities and games for kids, complimentary Arby's® Kids Meals (which are endorsed by Kids LiveWell and meets USDA nutritional standards with a Jr. turkey and cheese sandwich, apple slices and Shamrock Farms low-fat milk) and education on available summer meals programs in each community. The event vehicle will also visit public events to raise awareness about childhood hunger and its increased severity during the summer. National sponsors supporting the Hungry for Happiness tour include Pepsi, Dr Pepper, Comcast and Shamrock Farms.

WHEN: Through August 2013.

WHY: According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), while more than 21 million school children in America get free or reduced-price school lunches during the school year, just over 3 million of those kids get a free summer meal when school is out.  Fortunately, free summer meals are available to kids and teens age 18 and under at thousands of summer meals sites across the country. Sites are registered with USDA and are held at safe local places such as schools, churches and community centers.
