Acceller CEO McKean speaks to young entrepreneurs in Miami Following a longstanding tradition of involvement in the South Florida community, Acceller leader Steve McKean spoke last month at the YSEN Entrepreneurial Summit Miami, 2012.
MIAMI, May 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Young adults in the Miami area listened to Acceller, Inc. CEO and Founder Steve McKean discuss the importance of core values at the YSEN Entrepreneurial Summit Miami 2012. This was the first Youth Social Enterprise Summit in Miami organized by the Youth Social Enterprise Network and The Launch Pad at the University of Miami.
"Having an opportunity to help young entrepreneurs has always been important to me," said McKean, who started Acceller in 1999. "It is impossible to measure the influence you have on young careers, but I know that from my youth, a guiding hand from someone who has done what I was trying to accomplish would have been invaluable." Acceller connects firms to millions of consumers across the U.S. with the industry's leading brands in Internet, communication, video and entertainment services for their home.
Acceller's involvement in the local community is a direct result of the company exercising the core values crafted by McKean and his team of executives. McKean was elected to serve on the Orange Bowl Committee in March of 2011. Then, in February of this year, he was asked to be a judge in the 14th Annual Miami Herald 2012 Business Plan Challenge, which is a contest aimed at young business owners.
Young adults are afforded unique opportunities to hear examples of real-life entrepreneurs who have built businesses that benefit society. They get a chance to meet with and learn from leaders of social innovation, and they get a great opportunity to network with many like-minded peers. This often enables them to take their ideas to another level.
"Core values are the moral and cultural foundation of a company," McKean told the Summit's participants. "These values don't change much over time and they help guide the company's decisions and conduct – both internally and externally."
The Launch Pad at the University of Miami was co-founded by Dr. Susan Amat, who is also a serial entrepreneur. This event was crafted to help young adults learn the tools and road map necessary to build their social enterprise into a bigger entity.
